Mowing Robert Frost Analysis Mowing is a lyric poem written by Robert Frost in the year 1913. Like many other poets achieve that Frost does not, they talk about their imagination or something that they are wondering. Frost on the other hand expands his poetry into discussion about real life, and real situations. Just as it says in lines seven and eight, It was no dream of the gift of idle hours, or easy gold at the hand of fay or elf. Just as it declares, it is not a dream; it is real life reflecting that what he is doing is not easy. It is hard labor but yet he sticks it out and keeps working. Using the fourteen line method like the sonnet, Mowing does not pursue the same rhyme scheme. Instead Frost makes up his own. His rhyme scheme consists of a pattern of ABC ABD ECD GEH GH. Rhythm found here is that of the lines containing about the same number of syllables as each other. The lines are not of different syllables such as one line being 20 syllables and another being five. They are all around the same number which keeps the poem flowing smoothly. And all throughout this poem there is alliteration found. There are numerous words with the W, N, and D sounds. But on the other hand there are no similes or metaphors found in this poem. Mowing does not use a good amount of diction. But in some places it does, are examples like idle hours, and feeble-pointing spikes. All the other words are words such as heat, whisper, weak, laid, and scared, which could be spiced up to more complex words, since this poem is written by a professional. Meter, also used in this spectacular poem, contains unstressed and stressed syllables, with only five stressed syllables in apiece line. The scythe in some cases may be referring to reality or how hot it is outside; this may be a sign of why exactly the scythe is whispering. Personification is prearranged to the scythe with the whispering it does. But the author does not know precisely what the scythe is whispering. This gives Frosts poem reason for the reader to keep reading. And even at the finish of the poem neither the reader nor the author know what the scythe was whispering. If the author was to give us a clear hint on what the scythe was saying, there would be no point to the poem. This is engaging the reader to establish and think outside the box and make their own reason for the scythe to make a sound. Also in the poem there are no clear sounds that reflect. The only sound that is reputable is the sound of the scythe swaying back and forth as the character works. So this gives the reader another reason to keep reading and ponder how the scythe resembles something that is untold. The scythes earnest love may n ot always mean love; it may signify destruction at some points. The reason for this is when the scythe scares off the snake. This is an example of personification because the scythe does not experience real love. It is just an expression on how the author is trying to explain the poem. Mowing, told in first person by Robert Frost, since he does not use his imagination to try to explain situations, stops using his own imagination and goes back to talking about the natural evidence. He is leaving it up to the audience to figure out what the scythe is whispering. The theme exemplified here may be the emotions of love. This love immediately turns into death with the beheading of flowers and scaring the snakes off. But since Frost advises his poems in the aspects of real life and not the aspect of dreams or his imagination, this poem clearly represents his absolute love for nature. Even though he may not be doing what he loves, such as working in the field with a scythe on a scorching hot day, he still enjoys the fact of being outside in Gods creation and glorifying what he sees and encounters. Just as the theme, the mood resembled in Mowing is love. The author wants his audience to enjoy what he is feeling. He wants them to feel what he is feeling and to enjoy what he is enjoying. Such as being out in the hot sun all day and plain out enjoy the creation around them. He is saying enjoy it while it lasts because eventually it will come to an end. The tone the author is trying to express most of all is satisfaction. Even though he is not doing what he really wants to do, he is taking his time into effect and making the better use of it. Also, the author is trying to make his consultation feel guilt or some-what sorry for him because he starting his poem off by saying how there was no sound except for the sound of the scythe swaying back and forth against the hay. There was not even the sound of wind except for what the scythe was making. At the beginning of the poem, the author expresses not necessarily the problems of what he is doing or what is going on around him, but telling what exactly is going on in the poem. The first eight lines is where he expresses himself with that there was lack of sound, with the only sound being the wind of the scythe moving back and forth through the hay. Another thing he complains about is the heat. But at the same time he is praising that he is enjoying nature while in this devastating heat. And at the end of the poem the author is saying that this poem is not a dream but real life. And eventually the authors work is done and it is now time to go home and rest because he is very tired from a hard days work. And left my scythe to make means precisely that. He is done with his work and is going home to rest until the next day when he fills the same routine. Mowing is an exceptional poem that resembles the way we should live our life. Even though life may be hard, keep moving on becaus e at the end of the day, there will be something that you will rejoice and be thankful for. Mowing is a poem that teaches his audience about not giving up and pursuing with what they were meant to do and be thankful that they have the ability to do it. Robert Frosts poetry deals with the art of loving what is set before you and not complaining and most of all, relating it to real life and teaching a lesson.

Water and mud spewed from the break in the main and into businesses at Sioux City's Gordon plaza. "We walked in to open the store," said Beverly Gonzalez, Dollar etc. manager, "and there was mud and water all over." Water began leaking overnight from a fire water main beneath this utility building. "The first reaction was one of surprise, of course," said Roan Gruis, Little Chicago Deli Manager, "The owner got here at four o'clock and the water was running out the front and back doors." When the water drained, the stores were left with a quarter-inch of mud to cleanup. Half of the affected businesses reopened by mid-afternoon. There’s no word yet on what caused the water main to break. And now for your State news†¦.. An Urbandale man whose girlfriend called police after she recognized his face in a surveillance photograph was sentenced Friday to 20 years in federal prison for seven bank robberies. Richard Matzke, 58, was arrested in March 2002 as a suspect in more than 24 bank robberies in several states. He was convicted of seven Nebraska heists and was sentenced Friday in Omaha. Several robbery witnesses described a man who roughly fit Matzke's physical description, but none provided authorities with the license number of a getaway car. Matzke's arrest last year came after his fiancà ©e tipped off police. Kim Ford called police to say she recognized him in a surveillance photo published in The Des Moines Register from an Illinois robbery in February. Matzke's criminal history includes 11 drunken-driving convictions, a 1993 bank robbery conviction and a decades-old escape charge. “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape” Film Review

The film â€Å"What's Eating Gilbert Grape,† based on the novel by Peter Hedges, is an out of the ordinary middleweight observation of a dysfunctional, although regular family. The film has some touching scenes which take the audience away from the reoccurring humour of the Grapes' ways. Set in Endora, which is described as being â€Å"like dancing with no music,† the most exciting thing that happens throughout the film is Arnie's 18th Birthday Party and the arrival of the â€Å"Burger Barn.† Arnie, Gilbert's (Johnny Depp) mentally handicapped brother, always finds a way to escape Gilbert's watching eyes and climb up the tempting water tower. This is his way of getting in trouble with the cops, not shop lifting or drug dealing, but just exploring the local water tower. And when the police finally arrest him it causes his 500 pound mother (Darlene Cates) to leave the house after seven years and demand for her precious son back. The director, Lasse Hallstrom, is very clever in how he uses humour and pathos in this scene. On the family's way to the station the audience is able to laugh as the car tips up, nearly scraping the road, weighed down by the angry 500lb angry mother. However, on their way out of the station they find themselves part of a freak show, leaving the audience to feel horror and sympathy. Gilbert also has many of other responsibilities as well as keeping a constant watchful eye on Arnie: earning the money, maintaining the house and caring for his overweight mother and his two sisters. These things play heavily on his mind which is why his secret affair with Mrs. Carver (Mary Steenburgen) is very welcome at first. However when a free-spirited beautiful young woman arrives in a RV with her grandmother (Penelope Branning), the affair has to come to an end, helped by the death of Mrs. Carver's husband, who has formerly been threatening Gilbert. Becky, played by Juliette Lewis, is a down-to-earth character; someone like Gilbert has never met before. Becky and her Grandmother have been travelling almost everywhere and stop in Endora long enough for Becky and Gilbert to get to know each other very well and to start a romance. The arrival of Becky, however, changes the Grapes' routine and way of life. This film equals Lasse Hallstrom's other art house films such as â€Å"My Life As A Dog† and â€Å"Something To Talk About.† This Scandinavian director risked a great deal in experimenting with this film. One of the things he tries is the use of a voice over. This, used at the beginning, introduces us to the characters and the setting, Endora. At the end it lets us know where the characters end up and what they do. I think this is a bad technique in this film mainly because of the use of Gilbert's humdrum voice, which in a way warns the audience of the dullness that's to come. Hallstrom purposely chose the camera shots he uses throughout the film to give the film its homeliness. The recurring picture of the water tower in the background lets the audience appreciate Gilbert's responsibility. Gilbert's truck is also another frequent occurrence, which us see everyone in it, so we can observe their reactions and emotions to what is happening. This links to the camera shots through windows. These are also very common in the film and tie in with the â€Å"fly on the wall† technique, which is a favourite with reality T.V programs. As I previously said the film is like an observation of this family and this technique enables us to just watch them and feel like we are there with them, which makes us feel more ‘close' and we can sympathise with them because of their circumstances, as I'm sure that there is a little bit of Gilbert Grape in all of us. If you were a top famous Hollywood actor, would you be able to significantly play a mid-west, average twenty-odd year old man? In my opinion there would have been no one better than Johnny Depp in this case. He plays the part of Gilbert excellently, not over-the-top or over dramatic but perfectly, just how you'd imagine Gilbert to be after reading the novel. Compared to Depp's previous roles, such as in â€Å"Edward Scissorhands,† he really did have to act ‘down' in this film Johnny Depp is not the only actor in the film that I feel played an excellent performance. Leonardo Di Caprio also had a hard role to play as the ‘retarded' eighteen year old with the mind of a four year old. He obviously researched and thought greatly about how he should act such a difficult character, but he definitely pulled it off! Although the film is mainly pivoted around Arnie's eighteenth birthday party, the film has many sub-plots, which all have their own significance throughout the film. For instance the water tower, Mrs. Carver, the scenes in the cafà ¯Ã‚ ¿Ã‚ ½ and a few others. These all bond the film together in order to make it what it is; a great family film. A really important recurring point that is made throughout the film is when Arnie says â€Å"we're not going anywhere.† In a way this is the key point of the whole film as only until the very end Gilbert has no choice but to stay in Endora and look after his mother and the rest of his family, unlike his older brother, Larry, who ‘got away' and went to college. And now, the question, what actually is eating Gilbert Grape? Personally I think that it is all his responsibilities but mainly, not looking after Arnie as much as having the burden of his overweight mother sitting at home doing nothing, him having to care for her and his siblings, when really it should be the other way around. Although I really enjoyed watching this film many people didn't and have slated it in the past. I think it depends on your own personal taste in films and what you expect and want from a film. And whatever that may be I recommend you watch â€Å"What's Eating Gilbert Grape.†

When reading the amazing poem a Poison Tree it show some good values in life. I really think it is about a friendship and they go through problems together. Have you ever had a friend that betrayed you? Betrayal is a bad thing, but it is possible to get it over it. A lot people do not really do not know how to handle it or what to do in that tough situation. Most people do not like confrontation or they avoid the problem. This why people do get mad, but they are sometimes scared to speak up because emotions and feeling towards others. What really made me curious about this poem was it showed great emotions and you can feel it. There was a lot of anger in the story because he was being betrayed by his best friend. There was many mixed emotions and the second one that I really saw the emotion was the sadness it the poem. You can feel the sadness because his best friend just betrayed him and you though he was always going to be there for you. When you re hurt how do you sole it and get back up? â€Å"I watered it in the fears night and morning with my tears† (475). It showed that he was hurt and just sad because he lost someone and though they were a real friend. My personal experience was tough my best friend was very close to me and we chilled and did everything together, but when it came to baseball season changed, he just wants to follow others and to be honest that hurt. It was hard to get over it because it’s your best friend. It made me realize a lot because people change when they are with others. They rather hang out with fake people instead of real people. In the poem what really made me smile was that they got over their problems and solved it and became friends again. It took a long period of time to get over it and they really just learned from it and solved it. It was very surmising because they really went through a lot of emotions through sadness and they were hurt inside. Have you ever forgiven someone that was your friend and try to start over?
